I believe the programming and advanced coding for some BMW, Mercedes , and VW models,  requires a good internet connection to Autel's server , these capabilities  expire with the free update period and only minimal coding ability remains afterwards (probably just becomes an oversized DS808 ), but for other car makes you can try programming off a Windows laptop with the Maxi Flash Pro or Elite J2534 with a purchased OE subscription.
